Acree Wood Floors began as my grandfather's business, in 1923. In those days, you needed a hard wood floor to get a bank loan. At one point he had around 100 employees, working in large Southern California subdivisions.
My father started working with his dad while in High School during the depression. He took over his father's business in the 1960's, and continued until he retired.
I started by working for my father during summers in High School, puttying nail holes and sanding edges. In those days, he only did refinishing because carpeting had taken over. There were a few classy people around though, who tore out their rugs and we would restore their floors. They loved it.
I left the field for a while to become a carpenter. In 1990, I realized the need for an experienced wood flooring craftsman on the Big Island. I got some equipment from my father, and started Acree Wood Floors.
